Direct answer
Use the official China Trademark Office query service and the application number to check a China trademark application. Treat the displayed status as a record to verify, not a substitute for reading an official notice or calculating a deadline.
Choose the official query
CNIPA’s public-service guide identifies the China Trademark Office website as the public route for trademark information. It describes status query, comprehensive query, similarity query, gazette query and goods/services query as separate functions. For a pending matter, first capture the application or registration number, applicant identity and mark version. Search the corresponding official record rather than relying on a third-party snapshot with an unknown update time.
Read the right document
A status label such as “under examination” or “preliminarily published” does not tell the whole procedural story. Keep copies of submission receipts, payment notices, correction requests, refusal notices and gazette pages with dates. If the query record and a delivered notice appear to differ, identify the exact event and ask the responsible professional to reconcile them before taking an irreversible step.
Make monitoring an assigned task
Set a named person to check the official system and the authorized service channel, especially while a matter is pending. Record the date of each check and the next review date. For an overseas applicant, also decide whether a China agent, overseas IP firm or client is responsible for receiving and forwarding notices; an unassigned inbox is a process risk.
Questions to put in a case brief
- Do we have the correct application number and owner?
- Which official query was used and when was it checked?
- Is there a document requiring action rather than a passive status change?
- Who is responsible for receipt, translation and escalation?
Legal timing and limits
The 2019 amended Trademark Law is the applicable law on this source-check date. The 2026 revised Trademark Law was enacted in June 2026 and is scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2027. A matter crossing that date needs the governing text and any final implementing measures checked again; this guide does not apply the future law early.
This page is ChanYond’s independent explanation of public source material, not an official CNIPA or WIPO statement. Exact procedural deadlines, eligibility, fees and available remedies must be checked against the actual notice, the current official instructions and the facts of the matter. A filing or registration outcome is never guaranteed.
